Guest Designer - Ishani

Hello my dear crafty friends! Welcome back! Today we have another lovely guest designer joining us today with her beautiful water color card. Whenever I see her work, I feel very proud. And she is

Hello everyone,

I am Ishani also known as Quillish and am so glad to be here to share my card with you. Thank you Deepti for inviting me, it's an honour. I have been a part of the Indian Air Force till this June and now a happy stay-at-home-mom to my toddler. I have had a crafty gene but it was dormant till two years back. Quilling opened this new world of cardmaking to me and now I feel blessed to be a part of  such a loving community.

I love coloring, building scenes and love to learn and experiment new techniques but I think I’m slightly bent towards CAS style of card making. This month we get to play with water colours for the August - Watercolour challenge. I am quite a newbie to the different mediums of colouring and I feel that rather than getting wooed by the cool products we must get better in understanding the mediums we have at hand.  I think one of the products one usually buys when they start this hobby, is distress inks. I don't have many but I used the ones I had to create this card.

Do you know that Hydrangea is a flower that changes colour depending on the soils pH level. So my distress inks decided my soil to be slightly acidic and my flower turned into a mix of blue and pink. I went for a One layer card, did some masking for the leaves to go behind the flowers and then coloured each petal a little differently.

To colour a flower, I usually google the real flower. The color and the shadows play a very important role and water colours are so good at giving a natural movement to the pigment and achieve the stunning effects. I went with the lightest shade and got some variations as I coloured.

I hope you like my card. I am not a pro at watercolouring, but you'll get better only if you try. I believe in - Doing what scares you, until it doesn't! So, get your brushes out and play along.

Happy creating something catchy!

That was a very beautiful card. Thank you so much, Ishani for sharing your talent with us. Please don't forget to play along with the Water Color Challenge, guys! :)

Guest Designer - Sindhu Jay

Hello everyone! Today we have a very special guest, a very good friend of mine, a CAS perfectionist and a very sweet personality..

Hello everyone! Sindhu here. I'm so happy to be Guest Designing for the current Water Color Challenge. Thank you so much for inviting me over, Deepti.

Now, a little bit about me. I'm a Stay-At-Home-Mom to our 3 year old son who constantly keeps me on my toes. I have been paper crafting for over 6 years and I’m totally addicted to card making. I am a Clean and Simple (CAS) lover but also like make layered and interactive cards. I also like reading fiction when I find time.

For my card, I started by painting some circles on the background. I used my Zig markers and water for the purpose. The images were also water coloured using Zig markers. I fussy cut out the images, adhered them on the water coloured background, added the sentiment strip and some clear sparkle sequins. Mounted the panel on the card base to finish the card.

I hope you like my card. You can follow me on Instagram if you like my work. I'm @sindhu_trappedincraft there.

Best wishes,
Sindhu.

Thank you so much Sindhu for accepting my invitation and for sharing your beautiful talent with us. Guys! Don't forget to play along the current Water Color Challenge. See you again! :)

Guest Designer - Dr. Neha Sanwalka

Hello everyone! Today we have another beautiful lovely guest designer,

Hello! I am Dr. Neha Sanwalka Rungta from Mumbai. I am a statistician by profession, have a PhD in Health Science and Dietitian by qualification. I have been crafting since a very young age and dabble in various art forms. My current obsession is mixed media art & creating Art Journals.

It was very exciting to create cards inspired by Scandinavian patterns and designs. There was so much to explore that I ended up creating 5 different projects. For 2 projects, I used stamping to create leafy card panels inspired by Scandinavian patterns and converted these card panels to greeting card (red leafy) & note cards (green leafy). When exploring Scandinavian patterns, I also came across many colouring pages which would make for great cards. Hence, I downloaded 3 such pages, sized them using Microsoft word and printed them on 300 gsm cardstock. I then coloured the images using various colouring mediums and used the coloured images to make cards.

I had absolute blast creating these cards. I am going to still explore more of these designs as there is so much to learn about Scandinavian patterns.

Thanks, Deepti for giving me this opportunity.

CAS Scandinavian - Angela Jose

Hi everyone! I hope you are enjoying our Scandinavian Pattern Challenge so far. Today, I have a very special guest, the girl who has nice, good and clever crafting skills, one of my favourite crafters,

Hello creative people!  This is Angela Jose from The Crafty Angels. First of all, a huge thanks to Deepti  for inviting me to create something catchy, a challenge that shaped my card making game from the very beginning when I could hardly differentiate between stamps, inks and papers!

So starting off, the theme for this month’s catchy challenge is “Scandinavian Pattern” and that is a theme I absolutely love.

What is Scandinavian Design?
Scandinavian design stands for simplicity, minimalism and functionality – something easy to incorporate and something we all want after-all.

I made two cards on Scandinavian theme and I absolutely loved making them. Minimalist and functional cards have always been my favourite.

Here is my source of inspiration!!

The first card is a cliche Scandinavian style card – patterns with greys. The different shades of greys with hints of gold/copper have always been a statement Scandinavian style.

I used the background stamp “tiny hearts” from my favourite things and hero arts ink in the shade “soft granite” from hero arts, on fabriano cardstock in the shade “bianco”.

I die cut the word “hello” from MFT’s “hello & thanks” dies , stacked it together for a 3D finish and topped it with a gold shade die cut.  That's it.  A pretty card to break the ice between long lost friends and surprise them.

And for the second card I was very much inspired by the pattern.

The second card is a bit colourful because come on we are still Indians who love colors: D A little Indian style Scandinavian card with a bit of personal touch.

I chose these simple flower and leaf stamp from concord & 9th stamp “all year long” stamp set and stamped on fabriano elle erre  in shade “bianco” .

I wanted to write the wishes by hand so I kept the background colourful yet subtle. The sentiment is written with Hunt101 Nib in Sumi Black ink and I think the functional part of the Scandinavian style is fulfilled with the handwritten sentiment.

The reason I started card making on the first hand is I loved our childhood Christmas time when we used to carefully choose Christmas cards from the church, and I want to revive those memories in this digital age. Handwritten messages and handmade cards are the best way to be closer even when you are away.

I hope you liked these cards and I can’t wait to see your take on Scandinavian theme :)

Love
Angela Jose
